ACTIVITIES

Infants (0 - 18 months)

Our bright and spacious Infant Room provides your little one with a safe and stimulating environment full of fun activities and age appropriate toys. Our daily routine and weekly scheduling strive to support each child’s individual needs and development. Outdoor play is an important part of our daily routine. We have a beautiful backyard area accessible through the infant room where children can play during the day. We also have two six seater strollers so that we can take the children on a walk around the neighbourhood. Parents can expect teachers to communicate with them on a daily basis, providing them up to date information on their child’s daily eating, sleeping and toileting habits. Our daily routine incorporates a variety of activities geared at helping child development, including gross motor activities, STEM activities, multicultural awareness, outdoor play and much more.

Toddlers (19 - 36 months)

Our energetic Toddler Room provides children with a safe environment in which they can explore their growing world. Teachers plan weekly activities and experiences to aid children in reaching developmental milestones and learning new skills. In this room parents can expect teachers to assist children in potty training and teachers will communicate with parents on a daily basis about their child’s day, including their eating, sleeping and toileting progress. Outdoor play is very important to us – at Sunshine Academy the toddlers can often be found playing in our backyard or going for a walk in the neighbourhood. Our daily routine incorporates a variety of activities geared at helping child development, including gross motor activities, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities, multicultural awareness, outdoor play and much more.

Preschool (3 - 4.5 years)

The focus of our Preschool Room is to start getting our children ready for Kindergarten. The Preschool Room is organized into different learning centres where children can move freely and explore, learn and play. Our learning centres include art, water and sand sensory tables, manipulative play, blocks, large motor skill development, literacy and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). Outdoor daily play is an important part of child development and so our teachers make sure it is incorporated every day. Our Preschoolers are often found exploring our neighbourhood or playing in our backyard. Sunshine Academy has an onsite kitchen facility and we provide children with breakfast and snack each day. Kindergarten

Our fun and inviting Kindergarten Room is designed to be an inspiring environment for your child before and after their day at school! Our centre provides transportation for children attending neighbourhood schools - John Paul I, Greenview, Malcolm Tweddle, Lee Ridge and St. Elizabeth. Teachers walk children into their classrooms and pick them up from their classrooms at the end of each day. There are also a lot of fun activities planned for those days that your child is not in school, such as Spring Break, Christmas Break or professional development days. Similar to the Preschool Room, the Kindergarten Room is divided into different learning centres for children to explore and play. Sunshine Academy has an onsite kitchen facility and we provide children with breakfast and snack each day. Out of School Care

Before and after school can be a busy time for a lot of parents. Our centre is conveniently open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to accommodate parents who need help dropping and picking their children up from school because of their own work or school schedules. Children are transported to school in our centre buses. We provide transportation to and from John Paul I, Greenview, Malcolm Tweddle, Lee Ridge and St. Elizabeth schools. Before and after school, children are free to play as they wish. There are a lot of fun and developmentally appropriate toys and activities located throughout our Out of School Care room. During breaks from school, we also schedule a variety of activities and outings to ensure children never get bored. We have organized field trips to neighbourhood splash parks, Valley Zoo, Telus World of Science, Jurassic Forest and many more fun places around Edmonton.
